How To - Write “Fearless” Rune. People keep asking, so I’m sharing cuz it’s easier to show than to explain. Its a bit shakey from having been drawn up on a cocktail napkin. Proof there is “method in the madness”.
I started with a basic Glyph Alphabet. (I have it in both in JPG & TrueType, but can’t remember where I got it from). From that I just spelled out the words “Fear” & “Not”. But using that sort of Alphabet you don’t exactly spell things out, so much as you just hodge-podge them together phonetically.
So aside from a bit of stylizing, since I wrote it out in calligraphy, this is how ‘Feareless’ was made. Seems almost too simple doesn’t it? Except inventing each rune took a whole day! Not to mention not having the best hand-writing to begin with. ^^;
Various Growned-Ups : Former Shadowhunter, now Werewolf Pack Leader, Luke. Former Shadowhunter, now Artist Mom, Jocelyn. Former Good-Guy, now uber baddy, Valentine. - 2009
Various Kids : The Vampire, Raphael. The Werewolf, Maia. and the Shadowhunter (Huntress?), Aline. I back-dated this just cuz. - 2009
Sebastian Verlac : One of the Baddies. Basically an inverted Jace (meaning their similarities were on purpose). - 2006-ish
City of Bones : This is the only image I did for the site that wasn’t paid for. All the concepts prior to this were put together without all the information. After finally reading the Advanced-Readers-Copy of City of Bones I felt I finally had a better grasp of the characters and banged this out in one evening. I don’t recommend that sort of turn around for any artist but it’s still an image that really captures something of the Urban Fantasy enthusiast in me. I’m not a “romantic” or an ‘Epic/Hero’s Journey” sort of reader, but I had a great love for the city in this book and the world that’s captured therein. I’m glad its a theme that’s consistent in the next few titles in the series.
Isabelle Lightwood : Izzy didn’t have many changes from preliminary sketch to final design. Cassie was fairly cleared that Izzy was based on our friend Ruby. After that the question was ‘what would Ruby wear?’ (this being the girl who originally coined the phrase “looking better in black than the widows of our enemies since 1234.”, the answer was simply ‘something Bad-Ass’.) - 2006
